Mount Napak hiking and trekking epic
Mountain Napak is the third highest peak in Karamoja Uganda at an elevation of 2103 m located in Napak. It is surrounded by lush vegetation with breathtaking stunning views of the Karamoja plains with the Alekilek rock and beyond standings on one side and views of Mountain kadam, mountain Moroto on the other side.
The Trail
The trails are less trodden paths that pass through Karamojong villages and sunflower fields before making for the steep climb into the thick forest, over streams and rocks to the top where some secluded villages of the Tepeth people live.
The Experience
The hike starts from the campsite at the Mission school in Iriri passing through several villages where the guides will give you an insight into the life and customs of the people as you trudge along the paths among fields of sunflowers, maize and sorghum. After the fields the trail will become a climb leaving behind the last villages and enters the forest by crossing the many streams. Further on the hike becomes challenging as you go over the first rocks and get back into the forest along the winding steep path and then face the last two big climbs to finally lead you to the top where the forest opens up and reveals the camping grounds and view points.
The camping ground is in the open but shielded from the winds by the trees and rock face. Once the camp ground is set up, you will hike along a flat trail to the edge of the mountain for the views at sunset.
You will spend the night at the campsite with dinner prepared by the guides, have a warm campfire and retire. In the morning at first light you will have breakfast and pack up for the trek back down the Mountain
The Mountain Napak hiking and trekking experience can be done in a day, 2 days and 3 days.
