Mountain Elgon Wagagai peak trails
6-Day Elgon Loop (Piswa-Sasa Trail)
On this trail, you will cover Elgon Mountain within six days. You will encounter much fun and beautiful landscapes, while hiking well maintained footpaths. The nature of the topography on Piswa Trailhead starts with gentle elevation which reserves energy for the multiple hills leading towards the summit. Whilst on this trail, you shall encounter beautiful flowers, Senecio Plants, Artimesia atimalaria plants, birds and Duikers. There's much more to spot on the way. During this trek, we shall have midway lunch breaks, water breaks and snack breaks.
Piswa-Sasa Trail Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival, meeting your guide, and transfer to Kapkwata Uganda Wildlife Office for briefing, registering, meet your porters, cook, and ranger guides. Depart for your day one adventure, heading for the next camp: Piswa Patrol camp (2850masl) covering 11km in approx. 4 hours. Here will be your camp for the first night.
Day 2: After your early morning Breakfast, you embark on a 16km hike starting from Piswa Patrol hut to Hunters Cave Camp that is at an elevation of 3870masl. The nature of the footpath is well maintained and the landscape is both slightly gentle and hilly points. All in all, it's a fine route. This is a whole day hike approximately 6-7 hours hike depending on your paces. At Hunters cave, will be your 2rd night.
Day 3: After an early morning breakfast, we shall start ascending slowly up to Caldera rim leaving behind the route that leads to the hot spring and descend a little down to Mude Camp at an elevation of 3500m asl for your 3rd night.
Day 4: After breakfast, you will head out for the summit covering 800m to Wagagai peak of 4321m asl. On the trail, you will pass by Jackson pool, view Jackson Table, Mt Mubiyi and a great viewing spot as you make your way to the peak. From Mude Camp to the peak is a distance of 9km ascending and 9km descending making a total of 18km. At Mude Camp, you will have your 4th night.
Day 5: After breakfast, you will have a descent to to Sasa River Camp which is in an elevation of 2900m asl for enough time relaxation, storytelling at the campfire, you also get some time to dry your clothes as you prepare for the next day to check out of the forest.
Day 6: Early Breakfast, you will start descending on Sasa Trail towards Wall of life ladders to a community footpath then you approach a small trading center called Bumasola Village. There you will board a boda boda (motorcycle taxi) to Budadiri information point where you will receive your certificate for participation.

Day 1
7am- Departure from Kampala. Meeting point is Lugogi mall
1pm- Mbale stop for Lunch(out of pocket)
3pm-Arrival at Riverline lodge campsite. Set up camp. Free will exploration of Bududa town
7pm- Dinner. Retire at Will
Day 2
6am- Breakfast
7am- We head to the trail head which is about 30 minutes away. We do Registration, check in and briefing at UWA office
8am- Start of the hike. Bushiyi trail head to Shiloko campsite for lunch. A hike of about 3 hours. Then proceed to Dubi campsite for a hike of about 3 hours. We spend the night
Day 3
6am- Breakfast
7am-Start hike to the peak. A hike of about 4 hours. Lunch will be between the peak and Dubi campsite.
From the peak back to Dubi campsite is a 3 hour hike. Less or more.

Day 4:
6am-Breakfast
6.30-Start hike down to trail head. A hike of about 5 hours.
We should be at trail head by 12. We can do some freshening up here and have lunch.
1pm- In the way back to Kampala. Arrival by 8pm.

Balaclava or face cover for summit day
