How to handle post adventure blues
Post-adventure moods: whether it’s a “come-down” after the high of something like a big hike, summit, or cycling trip are completely normal. They’re sometimes referred to as the “post-adventure blues.”
Here’s how to handle them in a healthy, intentional way:
1. Acknowledge It
It’s normal to feel a bit down after a big adventure. You go from this high-energy, goal-driven experience to regular life, and it can feel like a bit of a drop. It’s okay to feel that way—just recognize it.
2. Reflect on the Adventure
• Journal: Write down your highlights, funny moments, lessons, and challenges. It helps process everything.
• Look at Photos: Go through the pictures or videos you took. You’ll probably remember some cool details that you missed.
• Talk About It: Don’t keep it all inside—chat with friends or fellow adventurers about what it was like.
3. Keep Moving
• Stay Active: If you were training for something, don’t stop. Whether it’s a light run, hike, or gym session, keep your body moving.
• Plan Something Small: Doesn’t have to be a huge trip. Maybe a weekend getaway or a mini hike to keep the excitement going.
4. Find New Purpose
Think about why you did the adventure in the first place. Was it for personal growth? Nature? Pushing limits? Try to bring that energy into your daily routine. Maybe make a habit of it, whether it’s taking more walks or getting creative.
5. Stay Connected
If you did the adventure with a group, stay in touch. Share photos, talk about the experience, and maybe plan a follow-up. It’ll help keep that connection alive.
6. Shift Your Mindset
Instead of feeling like it’s over, think: “That was awesome. What’s next?” It’s all part of the adventure.
